Meet Laika – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Loving Home

Laika is a beautiful 4-5-year-old dog with a heart full of love, waiting for a family to call her own. Her story began in hardship—abandoned while pregnant near a very poor neighborhood, she was scared and searching for food. Step by step, she learned to trust kind-hearted children and a woman who fed her. Sadly, her puppies were never found, and in that area, many vulnerable puppies face tragic fates.

For the past 2-3 years, Laika has been with us, slowly learning that the world isn’t as frightening as she once believed. Though still sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements, she has blossomed into a sweet and affectionate companion. Once she trusts you, she’s a gentle, loving dog with a constantly wagging tail.

Laika struggled in a kennel environment, losing hair due to stress, but since arriving at our sanctuary, she has truly flourished. She has formed an unbreakable bond with Napoleon, an older dog she adores—she showers him with kisses and follows him everywhere, earning her the nickname “Napoleon’s wife.” She is submissive, listens well, and walks on a leash, making her a great candidate for a home with children and other dogs. Given her past experiences in an area full of stray cats, she might be fine with them too—we can test if needed.

While the dream would be to find a home where she and Napoleon can stay together, Laika is also available for adoption on her own.
